Poetry: Birthdays

by Eva Prabhakar

Created on: July 22, 2008

I thought of getting you flowers,
but then,they'd die away...

Diamonds are forever they say,
so I thought of getting a few,
but then,you wouldn't want them,
so I dropped that idea too...

I saw a beautiful car,
thought you'd look nice in it,
but since I care so much about you,
wouldn't want you having an accident!

I came across a beautiful island,
a nice place for your vacation,
But,I wouldn't want you feeling alone,
So,I skipped the thought...

Finally,I thought real hard,
wondered what you'd like,
Maybe a plane or a planet-
But,I wouldn't want you so far away,
so,there goes that idea too...

I asked everyone what to do,
but got blank stares,saying
I'd know that better...

So,I drove around the city,
looking real carefully for something nice...
Know what I found?

Some beautiful moments all around,
so,forgive me,friend of mine
coz I got carried away and
didn't find anything in time...

Would a promise do?
something as simple as 'I love you'
coz you're a wonderful friend
and your friendship I hold true!
