Working out of your home has some real advantages . Easy commute and tax breaks come to mind. Running a daycare out of your home is a good way to earn a nice income if you have the resources.
When deciding to start a home based daycare business, the first thing you should look at is your home. A country or suburban setting is ideal due to the fact you really should have a fenced in yard for the children to play in. If that is not the setting of your home, you are in trouble from the start. Your yard is going to be the focal point for all your little children to expel their energy. A swing set with a slide is a necessity. Teeter totters are a nice addition, along with a little house / fort to play in.
If your backyard has an in ground pool, an extra fence will have to be placed around it and locked while the kids are at your home. When showing your business to prospective parents, this shows you put a premium on safety. If you have a dog, you need to have one that is wonderful with children. Wonderful as in if one of the kids wants a "pony" ride from Fido, he is more than happy to oblige. Same goes for tug-o-war with Fido's tail and the very popular game, open Fido's mouth as wide as possible to see into his tummy.
The inside of your home will also be of importance for those days where weather is an issue. Make sure that your home is child proofed with the appropriate fasteners on all cupboards. Having a large area inside for the children to play, learn, and hopefully nap, is essential. Family heirlooms, breakables, and anything else of any value to you should be placed in a safer area.
Your interior area should be a multi use room. Any type of lessons you teach, snack time and nap time will all be done there. Various toys for both girls and boys should be kept in child friendly cabinets or storage containers. Carpeting should cover the floor to cut down on the number of boo-boos and scrapes, and can double for their nap time spaces. A light colored carpeting is going to show every spill, so choose wisely. The walls of your interior should be of child appropriate nature and friendly, fun colors. A nice project to do with your family.
Having a daycare in your home can be a very fun and rewarding business. Having the fun and carefree atmosphere of children is a positive aspect of your life. Make no mistake, running a child daycare is a lot of hard work, filled with stress and a few headaches. Proper planning beforehand will help to ease those worries, and you can concentrate on having a positive impact on many children's lives.
