Recognizing our own beauty through the love of our children

I'm sure I didn't have that many wrinkles when I went to bed last night? Who came and put more there? Was is the same person that transformed my once slender willowy body into this rounded trunk like shape? Yep, it probably was. I know that person. I have seen them before. Showing me pictures from magazines and suggesting that I do this diet and that diet and "you would be ok if you didnt eat for a week". I have seen them waving new make up at me suggesting that if I tried it I would actually be doing myself a favour. They are the same person that looks around at everyone in the hairdressers and says ..."Now she looks hot. Why can't you look like that?.." If I had any respect for myself I would walk away or not listen to their droning voice anymore. What do I do instead? I soak up more and more about all the things I am not and how to improve, casting my eyes desperately around at other people looking for their faults to make my own seem less important.Until enough is enough. You know why I know that person so well? It is me! I listen to my inner self berating me for not being perfect like the magazines. Today I heard a new voice. I let myself hear it. It was the voice of my daughter. ..."you look so pretty Mummy, when I grow up I want to be just like you"... There are no words as sweet or as genuine. Forget the magazines, what do they know? They are paper. My daughter is flesh and blood. She sees and feels my essence, my soul. Who cares if there are wrinkles, they are the writing of my life for all to see.
