Poetry: The tragedy of love

by Michael Allen McCormick

Created on: July 22, 2008

They vowed to love each other in sickness and in health,
but time faded that pledge.

They agreed, it was them against the world.
Now they are the world against who they used to be.

When did the twinkle fade from their eyes?
Why did they stop holding hands?
Who said that true love never dies?
Why must they now divide the pots and pans?

Forever has now become never,
all the time invested has gone to seed.

The hearts of the children have been broken,
the wounds will never cease to bleed.

They didn't know they were lying, when they swore before God and man.
they thought they could defy statistics, divorce was never part of their plan.
