Many people have talked about Hip-Hop Songs and which are their favourites and most popular. It reminds me of the days of the early 1990's in Miami Florida. It was during this period that WDNA 88.9 FM [a Public Radio Station] had a programme called "Saturday Night Funk Box" which came after the programme called "Fusion Latina". "Saturday Night Funk Box" was hosted by Arturo Gomez-Cruz [who was also one of the hosts of "Fusion Latina"] and he styled himself as "Super fly" and played the most popular hip hop songs of the period.
While these songs have not received attention in mainstream hip hop genre, they were popular in Miami Florida and the stars became International Celebrities. The principal stars in the Hip Hop Genre in the US Latin Community were an Ecuadorean Singer and Rapper called Gerardo and Panamanian Singer and Rapper known as "El General" [The General].
RICO SUAVE
Gerardo recorded a very catchy Hip Hop Tune about life in the early 1990's called "Rico Suave". The song was catchy as well as truthful in front of a society that did not want to accept the truth. The song "Rico Suave" with its catchy verses of "Ding Dong Su Hija Esta En Bellas Manos.....Rico....Suave" was repeated many times in the streets of Miami, Tokyo, and London. In the Miami Dade County Youth Fair of 1991, there was a booth where a person could record a CD, Cassette, and a Video. The song "Rico Suave" was very popular and is still a catchy tune.
MUEVE TU BUMPER [MOVE YOUR BUMPER]
El General [The General] recorded this controversial song called "Mueve Tu Bumper" and he was not referring to the Bumper from an Automobile. He was actually challenging a society to quit whining and to start moving and if necessary to move the butt. The song actually was banned in some Latin Radio Stations in the United States of America and Canada as well as certain countries in Latin America. His recording company [I think it was Sony] promoted the song in spite of the controversy since the concept of "gyrating butts".
There was another song by El General but I cannot remember the title but it was a Rapping and Hip Hop Song with other stars such as "Ugly", "Vico-C", and others which talked about enjoying life. I used to play this song a lot in my Car's CD player since people have to enjoy life. Regardless of the Hip Hop songs, they were written for people to enjoy since life is so short.
