Exfoliating is essential to get great looking skin. Make-up and the environment leave layers of residue on the face that can't be removed with simple face washing. Exfoliation removes such residues and the dead skin cells that accumulate and leaves skin feeling rejuvenated, refreshed and touchably soft. Spa and salon treatments used to seem like the only option, but who has the time or the money for that? You can now purchase at-home facial treatments that promise effective exfoliation. But you don't need to break the bank buying expensive exfoliating products when the best solution is a natural, homemade exfoliating mask that won't irritate your skin with harsh chemicals.
This facial scrub is simple and effective. It will penetrate through the layers of dead skin, deep clean the pores and reduce the appearance of pimples and blackheads, creating a more youthful complexion.
Brown Sugar and Oatmeal Facial Scrub
What you will need:
2 Tbsp. whole ground oats
2 tsp. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. Aloe Vera
1 tsp. lemon juice
2 tsp. fresh tomato, mashed into a liquid (optional)
Mix ingredients in a bowl until fully blended. (You can first process the oatmeal in a food processor for a more fine texture, if you like.) Add the mashed tomato to the mixture and blend well for an extra vitamin boost and a great detoxifying element. Smooth the mixture onto face and neck in small, circular motions, avoiding the delicate around-the-eye area. (The more you scrub, the more dead skin and impurities you are removing, so take your time. Scrub gently for around five minutes.) You can allow the mixture to sit for up to five minutes if you like, which will allow the tomato and Aloe Vera vitamins to penetrate and treat the skin. Remove the mixture by gently rubbing with a damp cloth. Then, rinse the skin thoroughly with cold water and follow with a toner and moisturizer.
Regular exfoliation treatments help rejuvenate the skin and create a more even tone and texture. Try variations of this recipe, such as adding 1 drop of as essential oil for a delightful aromatherapy experience. For extra-dry skin, add 1 tsp. honey to the mixture. For more oily skin, add 1 tsp. lime juice.
The brown sugar in this mixture penetrates through dead skin cells and deep cleans the pores, allowing the lemon juice to deep clean impurities embedded in the skin. Since facial skin is constantly exposed to the elements, it is important to do a thorough exfoliating treatment at least once a week to keep your skin looking its best!
