Mount Horeb

I

Mount Horeb's voice is calm and still
No thunder sounds from Zion's hill
No burning bush, no voice of God.
Just silent feet that onward trod.

No priestly feet in Jordan's wave.
Joshua's sword ne'er gain will save
Battlefront on Canaan sod.
Just silent feet that onward trod

No call awaits chariot of fire.
Elisha's voice does not inspire
Shouting, "Where is Elijah's God."

Just silent feet that onward trod.

No shepherd watch on Judean hill.
No Magian star our hearts to thrill.
No angels sing, Glory to God.
Just silent feet that onward trod.

No body in the borrowed grave.
Yet multitudes still rant and rave
Let's crucify the Son of God.
While silent feet still onward trod.

II

Yet loud the voice of Horeb cries
"Thou shalt not" then it dies
While burning bush with voice of God
Is smothered by the screaming mob

Buried from sight is Jordan's wave
And the sign, "Jesus Saves"
While battlefront on Canaan sod
Is in the hands of foreign gods

Elisha's voice fails to inspire.
Sinful man will use strange fire.
And sacrifice to useless gods
Carved from the muck of humble sod

Each year shepherds come to the hill
Magian star still does thrill
And angels sing glory to God
While a blinded world onward trods

The body risen from the grave
Holds the sign, "Jesus Saves"
While mob that cries, "lets crucify."
Hears God condemning them to die

III

The voice of Horeb will condemn
And thunder down upon all men
And voice of God from bush that burns
Will judge each man in his turn

And Jesus feet in Jordan's wave
Will let across those He saved
While battlefront on Canaan sod
Is buried by the Hand of God

Shepherds again will sit on hill
Magian star again will thrill
And angels sing Glory to God
As silent feet onward trod

And loud: "Behold Elijah's God"
Silent feet are battle shod.
Nations bowing, humbly laud
The Risen Christ The Son of God

Silent feet, are a patient God
That to the Appointed Day do trod
To our final Sabbath Rest
And Beulah's land of the blest
