Favorite soap operas and characters

by Matt Crider

Created on: July 21, 2008

Over the years, many different soap operas were my favorite and captured my attention .

General Hospital

I started watching because either my mother (Days) or my aunt (General Hospital) watched them and I would watch with them. I started General Hospital right after Genie Francis left the role of Laura the first time. Most of the soaps at the time were doing big adventure stories with their main couples. I loved the murder mystery of who killed Susan Moore and the up through the Aztec treasure storyline which introduced Princess Felicia. After Gloria MOnte left as Executive Producer, I stopped watching.

It wasn't until about 2 years ago that I was lured back bu another big adventure story, this one involving a mysterious virus and the hunt for the cure. The Metro Court storyline was another favorite in February of '07 and as was the "Would you die for love?" story that took place in November of that same year. Currently, General Hospital has lost some of my interest but I haven't stopped watching... yet.

Favorite all-time General Hospital character: I would have to say Celia Quartermain, as played by Sherilyn Wolter was my all-time favorite General Hospital character. Introduced with not one, but two love interests, she was a character who was both spoiled, but also quite strong. She was involved in a big complicated storyline with her her husband (who turned out not her childhood boyfriend, but an imposter that was made to look just him) and her lover (he was the illegitimate Quartermaine hier). It was just one of those things where the actor and the character meshed perfectly, providing the audience with a highly entertaining character.

Favorite current General Hospital character: Introduced as a short-term character, Damian Spinelli has shined as computer geek Damian Spinelli. First he fell in love with Lulu Spencer, the daughter of the legendary Luke and Laura all the while being pined after by Georgie Jones, the daughter of Frisco and Felicia until her ridiculous demise in December of 07. Now, his interest in Georgie's sister Maxie is prividing some great story. All of this is only possible by Bradford Anderson's skillful redndition of the third-person speaking, quirky character.

Days of our Lives

Days is another show that I have watched through the years. From the Salem Slasher / Bradford Curse storyline in the 80's to the Possession of Marlena storyline in the 90's all the way up until the end of the Salem Stalker / Melaswen storyline in the 00's, I stayed
