Tips for removing a tick from yourself

Were you outside today going for a long walk through the woods and came home covered in ticks? Were you able to get most of them off, but you had one that had already starting to embed into your skin? If that happens, do not remove the tick by burning it out of your skin, because you could harm yourself very badly and cause a serious infection.

The safest way to remove a tick is by using a pair of flat edged tweezers and trying to pull the tick out without wiggling it to much because you don't want to leave part of the tick's body in your skin. You want to take the tweezers and grab onto the tick as best as you can and pull straight forward in a steady motion or straight up, but never side to side wiggling it out. The next thing you want to do once you remove the tick is to place it in some sort of container with a lid and clean the infected area and add some Neosporin to the infected site and call your doctor right away to be checked out. You will want to go to the doctor right away after you have removed the tick to get the tick bite check out because ticks carry lime disease and bring the tick with you to the doctors because they will need to do testing and need to know what kind of tick bit you. Other than that you should be fine once you remove the tick safely and if you can't remove the tick yourself have your doctor do it.

The worst thing to do is get bitten by a tick and not go and get it checked out by a doctor. The reason why is because many people get bit by a tick and remove it safely, but later down the road become really ill and end up finding out its lime disease. If you go to the doctor right away soon after getting bitten by a tick they can tell you whether or not the tick was carrying lime disease and certain treatment can begin to help prevent survivor lime disease symptoms. Once you have lime disease you do have it for the rest of your life because it's incurable.

Remember when you get bit by a tick to not burn the tick out and to grab a pair of flat tweezers and steady and gently pull the tick out of your skin and place it into a container to take with you to the doctors. Remember its very important to go get the tick bite checked out by the doctor to avoid serious infection and a serious possible disease.
