Men's fashion: Dressing for success

Dressing successfully means that you always wear clothing which is the most appropriate for the occasion involved. It also means that you wear clothing that suits you, fits you well and brings out your personality and makes you shine as an individual. Men's fashion, in the past, went through a stage that was staid and typical. As a man your clothing identified you either as a blue collar worker or the opposite. There was little inbetween and not much to choose from.

Thankfully times have changed and men now have more opportunity to be both stylish, comfortable and interested in their apparel. This wider scope of choice has bought with it, for some men, a little apprehension about how to dress for success. The answer for many men is no longer cut and dry. It would seem that with choice may come much deliberation. The following is a guide to help men to discover their own unique fashion style while avoiding possible fashion blunders along the way.

CLOTHING FIT

The best place to begin dressing for success is in the fitting room. Many men are used to buying garments straight off of the peg without even holding the items up to their bodies, let alone actually trying them on.

Clothing that fits well always looks better than that which does not and wearing ill fitting clothes will never make a man a fashion success.

When buying trousers or jeans try them on first. Bend in them. Move about as though you will do in them if you actually purchase them. They shouldn't feel so tight that they are uncomfortable. They should have a little give to allow for movement and they should be the correct length for your leg, ending just over the top of your shoes.

The waistband shouldn't be so tight that it causes your stomach to bulge over it when you are in a sitting position. The length from the waistband to the crotch area should be roomy enough that you can have a little air circulate so that you feel comfortable rather than awkward and clammy.

When purchasing a suit be sure to check that the jacket fits as well as the trousers do by taking notice of the arm length, again, allowing for movement and checking that done up as well as undone the suit is well fitting.

Most men know the neck size that they had when they were measured for their very first suit. Many still go by the same measurements twenty years later, even though they have changed in size. Not allowing for this growth can cause major discomfort, leaving the wearer hot and bothered instead of looking like a successful dresser.
