The best places to live in Indiana

Indiana is a great state to live in. It would be much easier to write an article about where not to live in Indiana because 97% of the state is pretty good in my opinion. The biggest problem with living in Indiana is the weather. I personally hate winter so about 3 months a year aren't very good. The other 9 months, however, are GREAT.

If I have to select one area of Indiana to live, it would be in the Indianapolis area. I would not want to live in Indianapolis but be 30 minutes or less from downtown. That way you would be close enough that you could work in Indianapolis but still be able to get away from the high taxes that come from living in a big city.

Indianapolis offers many things to see and do. The obvious things are the sports teams. The Indiana Pacers play in Conseco Fieldhouse. The Fieldhouse is one of the premier places to watch basketball. The Indianapolis Colts are building a new stadium. Lucas Oil Stadium is also going to be a premier stadium in the NFL. I have been fortunate enough to drive by it as it is being built. It dwarfs the RCA dome. With the retractable roof, Lucas Oil Stadium will give Colts fans something that they haven't been able to experience for a whileoutdoor football.

The AAA Indianapolis Indians play in one of the top, if not THE top AAA baseball fields. Going to watch the Indians at Victory Field is an enjoyable summer outing. The Indianapolis Ice give hockey fans a chance to watch minor league hockey.

You also get the opportunity to watch Division I college basketball with Butler and IUPUI in town.

And for race fans, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is just a few short miles from downtown Indianapolis. In fact the Indy 500 mini marathon begins in downtown Indianapolis and takes a lap around the track. I am guessing that the track is about 5 miles from downtown Indy. They also have the Indy 500 festival parade every year the first weekend in May.

Indianapolis is not just about sports. They have quality hospitals, restaurants, malls and museums as well. Many top performers have appeared at Conseco Fieldhouse. Personally my favorite was Paul McCartney. There are also other clubs throughout the city that have had top name performers appear.

The Indianapolis Symphony does an outstanding job presenting a Christmas program every year. The lighting of the "world's largest Christmas tree" every November is also a big event.

There are several festivals throughout the year in and around Indianapolis that are quite good.

Basically, downtown Indianapolis is just a neat place to visit. The people are friendly and it's pretty easy to get around.

I would recommend living near Indianapolis. If I had to narrow it down to a particular area, I would say either Greenwood or Southport. In either of those cities you still get the feel of living in a mid-sized city but you are only minutes away from downtown Indianapolis.
