I was a child and a teen when the explosion of hip-hop became popular. Many of the tracks I loved as a teen are popular still today with our teens and the older generations still dance in there car seat when they come on the Radio. Wedding reception DJ's still get request for the old feel good dance songs. Like; Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-a-Lot, "I like big butts and I cannot lie" is heard chanted in large groups. I think this song will never get old.
Other Hip-hp songs that still grab our attention and are liked by kids still today are:
Run DMC and Aerosmith's- Walk This Way. A revolutionary song!
Biz Markie- Just a Friend. Played by all the guys who thought there girls were cheating.
Digital Under Ground- The Humpty Dance. This is another one that is still played at receptions and parties because it is so fun to dance to!
Young M.C.-Bust A Move.
LL Cool J- Mama Said Knock you Out.
Snoop Dogg- Gin and Juice. One of my favorites.
Ice Cube- A Good Day
Naughty by Nature- O.P.P. "You down with o.p.p?" "Yeah, you know me!"
Tone-Loc- Wild Thing. This is one of those tracks that you remember all the lyrics to.
2Pac-Dear Mama. It is not often that a Hip-hop song makes you wanna cry!
Salt-n-Peppa- Push It
Beastie Boys- Fight for your Right to PARTY! This one goes back far but is still widely known today.
House of Pain- Jump Around. " So, get out your seat and Jump, Jump around"
Many of these artist were not one hit wonders and had plenty other beats that we still turn up today when they come on, such as. Salt-n-Peppers Let's talk about Sex and What a Man. 2Pac(may he rest in peace)many songs still play even though he is no longer with us, such as, Keep Ya head Up, Brenda's Got a Baby and California Love.
Snoop Dog, LL Cool J, and the Beastie Boys are still making us dance today. Snoop Dog's Sensual Seduction is a unique but very popular hit today.
I don't think we can really say from songs that play these day's if they they will be in the most popular ever. But there are a few that will probably have our kids turning up when they are older. A few songs are:
50 Cent- Candy Shop
Shawn Kingston- Beautiful Girls
Solider Boy-Solider Boy
There will be many more added to the list as the years go buy. Determined by how much they are played and how we never get tired of listening to them, even fifteen or twenty years later! Just like Baby Got Back is turned up today and it will be tomorrow so will some of the ones we here today. Who can stop singing: "All these beautiful girls, that why it will never work, they make me suicidal, suicidal."
