"Good morning, I need a tall, non-fat, doppio, wet machiatto, please".

Ok, maybe you won't be able to get that on your next camping trip, but there are ways to get your hands on that much needed and awaited cup of morning coffee, even if you are in the wilderness.

If you don't have a spoiled palate and just crave a hot drink with the caffeine boost, then instant coffee is the easiest way to go. All you need are crystals of your favorite brand of instant coffee and hot water.

Another simple way to do it is following the drip method. You will need a plastic funnel, coffee filters and coarsely ground coffee. Place the filter in the funnel and fill it up with the ground coffee. Place the thin section of the funnel inside a container, preferable one that will keep the coffee hot, such as a Thermos. Heat some water to a boil. Pour some of the water on top of the coffee just enough to make it evenly wet. Then, go ahead and pour the amount needed to fill up the container. The recommended amount of coffee to make a nice flavored drink following this method is approximately two teaspoons per six ounces of water.

If you want a better tasting coffee, a percolator is the best solution. The most widely used these days is the one known as the Italian or Mocha Pot. This pot is divided into three compartments:

1) the bottom section, which you need to fill up with water.

2) A basket with very little holes that goes on top, which you need to fill up with ground coffee

3) the top section, which at the end of the process will be filled up with great tasting coffee.

Basically the process goes like this. You place the pot on a camping stove. When the water boils it forces it to go up as steam through a narrow tube, pass through the basket that holds the coffee and, finally, continue its way up through another narrow tube that ends up in the top section. The already flavored water will stay in this section. Once this section is filled with ready to drink coffee, don't let it boil any more. Remove it from the heat and serve. To use this method you need a thinner ground, one that is prepared to make Espresso coffee.

If your camping experience will have a certain degree of modern conveniences, such as electric and water supply hook ups, then of course the options are endless and it won't be a big deal to figure out how to make your cup of coffee. But if you want to go away from it all and become one with nature, this article gives you some tips so that you don't need to embark to your adventure caffeine free.
