OK see here is yet another example of the disgusting effect that human beings have on their environment. i, as a human animal, am sick to death of seeing us, collectively, kill our grandchildren to feed our children. now, as an American, i know that the Americans of the past made many many poor environmental decisions. i mean, existing in new jersey there are So many examples of how dirty we humans can be, but for god-sake? a new continent made of human waste products? We HAVE to do something. as an individual, if i see garbage on the ground, i feel responsible to pick it up, whether anyone is watching or not, just because, as Kant taught us, do the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do. look we have to start taking responsibility, each of us, individually for the world that we live in. you. that is reading this right now. you. if You see a piece of trash laying around, despite whether or not you left it or not, just pick it up. no more excuses. no more 'what will me picking that up do?' BS. just go do it dirty! look at our beaches?!?! look at our rivers and streams so polluted. if we aren't the ones to make it better who is gonna? we need to take responsibility for our filth. Humans have been using the oceans as a toilet and a food source since the dawn of time. and now we have a new continent we can go plant a flag on and then put more of our garbage on top of it. we need to rethink our whole system here. from product creation to user consumption we need to consider the impact of the products we consume. in the words of Lewis black "we're men, we go to the moon, we have saran wrap, fix it!' for this particular problem i think we need to come up with some sort of biodegradable packaging, it really doesn't sound that hard or expensive to do either. take some damn plant cellulose and make a frigging bag out of it jeez. look we cant have floating continents of garbage floating all over. if we continue to act in the same manner as our parents have been doing then the results that we get will be the same. and it wont get better. lets think on this. floating islands of garbage 2008, what will 3008 be then? 'Asia and north America connected by garbage bridge?' 'Americans now able to walk to moon on garbage road' we have to draw the line some where and start changing how we do things. changing how we see things. and how we see ourselves and the world we are going to leave to our children. i was born in '75 and the water was already screwed. i don't want my kids to be born into a world like that do you? i can imagine myself going down to my local creek and working to clean it up. if i could just get a little guidance and help. i will do it because i think it's what everyone should do and i wouldn't ask someone else to do something i myself am not willing to do. humans have had a horrendous impact on the earth since the seventeenth century and we need to start taking responsibility for all of our actions. and i personally will do my best to pick up all the trash i can when i can.
