Carpet cleaning can be done without the help of a professional. Follow these simple steps to get the job done yourself.
1. You will need to first vacuum up your carpet with your regular vacuum.

2. Then you should go around your carpet and spot clean any spots that are visible. A cleaner that works well is called Spot Shot. You can get it at Costco or most any other grocery store. You should spray the spot cleaner on the stain. You should gently press down on the spot with a towel so that you can soak up the chemical.

3. After you have checked for all spots, you can get out your carpet cleaning machine. The upright variety is the easiest to handle if you're cleaning the whole house with the cleaner. You fill up the machine with water and chemical. Your carpet cleaner will tell you how much water and how much chemical to put in the machine. Then you will shampoo your carpet. There is usually a button to push to get more chemical out. Push the button frequently when you are in an area with a lot of stains. Try to stay in a line when you're shampooing. You'll be able to tell what spots you hit and spots you didn't when you do this. Use carpet machine attachments to clean the stairs and hard to reach corners.

4. Let the carpet dry. Do not walk on the wet carpet or have any animals/children walk on the carpet. After the carpet has dried, you can come in and see what areas might need to be done again.
