Why you should spay your female cat

Are you a responsible cat owner? Well let's see. You provide food, water and shelter for your feline friend. Veterinary visits take care of yearly vaccines and examinations. Your cat is lavished with love, attention and expensive toys. Your female cat isn't spayed? Three out of four ain't bad, but let me tell you why you really should have your cat spayed.

CONTROL CAT OVERPOPULATION

Every year over a million cats end up in shelters because there are simply too many cats and too few homes to care for them. Their only crime was being born and sadly 75% of these shelter cats will never find a home and will be euthanized. The problem goes far beyond that as all of these homeless cats don't end up in shelters. Many more struggle on a daily basis to survive on the streets or in the wild. You can do your part to help control the cat population by having your cat spayed.

HEALTH BENEFITS

Spaying is the surgical removal of the female reproductive organs including ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes. This eliminates the chance of your cat developing ovarian or uterine infections or cancer. The risk of developing tumors of the mammary glands is greatly decreased after this procedure as well.

UNWANTED PREGNANCY

Of course the removal of the reproductive organs will prevent your cat from becoming pregnant. You won't have the burden of finding homes for litter after litter of kittens. A female cat can become pregnant again as soon as ten days after giving birth. Still not convinced?

NO HEAT CYCLES

Having a cat in heat is about as pleasurable as having the dentist drill a tooth while his hygienist slaps the sunburn on your back and his receptionist runs her nails down a chalkboard. An unspayed cat will come into heat every three or four weeks from spring through to fall. During this time she will become very vocal with persistent moans and cries as she tries to summon suitors. Just as with humans she will experience mood swings as well. One minute she may be calm and loving while the next she's climbing the curtains and warding you off with the swat of a paw. This is just what goes on indoors. Outside your home will become a haven for every tom within miles as they vie for her affection and mark their territory.

DETERS ROAMING

Not having to find a partner to mate with will decrease your cat's desire to roam. Having her at home will decrease her chance of being hit by a car or getting into a fight which could result in cuts and abrasions that get
