"Bye Ryan. I'll miss you," was what I said when I hugged him. He kissed my cheek then walked onto the plane. For the next five minutes, I watched my best friend ever since kindergarten take off leaving Hawaii for California.
Seven hours later, I got my first phone call from Ryan since he's been in California.
"How do you like it so far?" I asked.
"I don't. It's away from all of you guys," he replied.
"Well I hope that I don't lose you as a friend. Promise me that with you moving, it doesn't change our friendship," I told him.
"I promise," as he agreed.
We talked a while longer talking about our past.
For the next month, Ryan kept his promise calling me everyday, sending me videos, and commenting me on myspace. But one day I called him and he sounded busy. There was loud music playing in the background, and boys laughing.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"I'm at a party," he said as he laughed.
"You have friends?" I said.
"Yeah I do. Can I call you after the party?" he asked. He hung up the phone before I had the chance to say anything. I threw my phone on my bed and I followed it. In no time, I fell asleep.
An itch on my nose woke me up. I looked at the clock and it read 2:22 AM. I checked my phone to see if Ryan called since I'm a very heavy sleeper. No missed call, no text message. It was 4:22 AM over there. I know Ryan would call since he's all about doing that he said he'll do; so I just went back to sleep.
I woke up that morning pretty late. I wasn't feeling good so I slept in. When I did wake up, I called Ryan to check up on him. It was 1:52 PM there. His side of the line was dead silence.
"Sorry I didn't call back after the party," was the first thing he said when he answered.
"It's okay," I started. "When did you get home anyways?"
"Around six," he replied.
I just nodded but it wasn't like he could see me. He knew me well enough though. He should know I wouldn't say anything.
"But I'm kind of sleeping right now. Can I call you when I wake up?" he said nicely.
I really didn't want to hang up. I wanted to talk to him and learn about his new friends and the party last night. I just hung up on him when I heard snoring.
An hour passed and no phone call. I even played Guitar Hero to get my mind off it but no phone call. I went shopping with my friends and no phone call. The whole day, no phone call.
Before I went to sleep that night, I wanted to call him but I changed my mind. I did my homework instead.
That whole week, I had work piled on me. Three projects, a book
