Cancun, Mexico combines the cool colors of the Caribbean with exotic Spanish flavor, enticing travelers from around the world. For 253 days of the year, the sun shines down on the shimmering water and sandy shores of Cancun, Mexico. This gorgeous ocean location provides Cancun with a generally rainy hurricane season. There are certain times of the year where a visit may seem more alluring than others.
December through April is often considered the best time to travel to Cancun. Besides breaking up a long winter for those snow trapped northerners, this subtropical island paradise provides perfect temperatures normally hovering somewhere around the mid-80s. Cancun at this time is not too hot and just warm enough to still take advantage of the heavenly beaches and pools, although hotels can sometimes be a little more pricey. In December and January, however, hotel pricing sky rockets and reservations must often be made months in advance! Those on a budget would do best to avoid this time of year altogether. March ushers in the young crowd of frantic Spring Breakers. Those longing for rest and relaxation may want to bypass March and choose a less crowded month, like April. Many resorts offer cheaper prices after April's Easter holiday which may be due in part to the two week period of jellyfish mating, when the swimmer has to be particularly alert.
May through September can be sweltering when the cooling ocean breeze disappears and the temperature can hit average highs of close to 100. Add humidity and conditions quickly turn sticky. This time of year is best reserved for those who prefer leisurely lounging on the beautiful beaches or by scenic hotel pools. June and July tend to be slightly more bustling as summer vacation is celebrated by students in Mexico and the United States. June does herald the beginning of Hurricane season which won't end until November. Rain is often in the forecast but, just like many southern states in the US, the downpour usually clears up in an afternoon. It can put a crimp in outdoorsy plans so the adventure loving tourist may have to consider a more flexible schedule. November can harbor some fantastic weather, as well as far less other tourists though it is still part of the lengthy rainy season and weather will be rather unpredictable.
Cancun attracts so many visitors year round for a good reason - there is so very much to do! Don't let the possibility of rain dampen your mood! No matter if it rains or shines, Cancun holds exciting possibilities. Bask in the sun when the skies are clear and explore the shopping malls and markets when the weather is less than beach friendly. Immerse yourself in the enchanting resort city of Cancun, Mexico and create the memories and friendships that can last a lifetime.
