The first time I cradled you, in my arms,
The moon shone bright, cheered on by the stars.
The blossom scattered wide and free,
by a breeze that blessed the family tree.
Stood by you into your teens,
The funny hair and scruffy jeans,
Put up with the dubious music,
Patience is a virtue, and we didn't lose it.
Always there for you, if in need,
To heal your wounds, should you bleed,
A helpful word, another point of view,
Open arms, always there for you.
So someone tell me please, if there is a God,
Why in peace you lie, beneath the grass and sod.
A Life so promising, it shouldn't end this way,
Leaving only tears for us, to give on your birthday.
