I discovered soap nuts about a year ago and never looked back since, they are the ultimate household cleansing product. They clean clothes, hair, floors, worktops, anything really.
You can add essential oils to make up your own cleansing products, i.e. Lavender is very relaxing so wash nightware and bedding in soap-nuts with a few drops of oil added.
Eucalyptus is antibacterial so good to use for floors worktops and bathroom.
Here is a list of oils to add and their uses:
Lavender oil has a floral aroma with a hint of woodiness. Lavender oil is one of the most versatile (therapeutically)of all the essential oils,it is antiseptic, soothing & relaxing for the body & mind. A must for anyone starting to use essential oils. Blends with Bergamot, Citronella, Clary Sage, Lemon,Mandarin, Orange, Patchouli,Thyme, Rosemary & Ylang Ylang.
- Good to use on bedding and nightwear to relax and unwind.
Tea Tree has been used extensively by the Aboriginal people for centuries, for its antiseptic & anti-bacterial properties. Tea Tree has a sharp, clean aroma. Tea Tree is widely used in Aromatherapy, due to its wide range of therapeutic properties. A recommended oil for those new to using essential oils. A useful insect repellent, use in an oil burner or room spray with other insect repellent oils to deter flies & other flying insects from your home. Blends with Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Ginger, Lavender, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange, Peppermint, Rosemary & Thyme.
- Good to add to liquid soap for household cleaning, or use with to make a anti head lice shampoo, in greenhouse spray.
Eucalyptushas a light, refreshing aroma, with a sweet,woody note. Eucalyptus has been used for centuries by the Aboriginal people for its antiseptic properties. Eucalyptus Globulus is commonly known as Blue Gum Eucalyptus. Use in a room spray to deter flies & keep your home smelling fresh. Eucalyptus oil can be helpful in removing tar from skin & clothing. Blends with Basil,Citronella, Frankincense,Ginger,Lavender, Lemon,Sweet Marjoram, Peppermint,Tea Tree & Thyme.
- Good for house hold cleaning, anti- bacterial, or for soiled clothing/nappies, in greenhouse spray. Used in oil burners it kills airborne bacteria.
Lemonhas a sharp,fresh citrus aroma & is refreshing & uplifting. Lemon oil is a useful addition to your household cleaning kit, due to its anti-bacterial properties. Add a few drops onto a damp cleaning cloth to wipe down kitchen surfaces & to eliminate unpleasant odours in your refrigerator.
