How to know if you have a guardian angel? Excellent question but really hard to answer. It is similar to questions such as "How do you know there is a God" or "How much does the human soul weigh". What this question really means is how does some one know if God is watching over them. There are all sorts of different answers to the question and none are really scientific. Guardian Angels really have to be taken on faith and are often referred to as "luck"! They are the good things that happen just when you need them and against all odds.

There has been a Guardian Angel watching over me virtually all my life, and probably working overtime! I was born with an abnormal shaped heart and predicted to die before two, I have made it to over 50 and earn a living climbing mountains. I spent a great deal of time hiking through the swamps and marshes of South Carolina, encountering snakes, alligators, cougars, and snapping turtles without ever being bitten or hurt; this was without professional instruction and often "alone". I have traveled, worked and lived in mosquito infested areas where Dengue Fever and typhoid are common, but had no immunizations and never been sick. The statistics of this happening are remote, something should have gone wrong. But maybe I am just lucky and at the far end of the "Bell Curve", something more is needed to know I have a Guardian Angel!

At University I got involved in everything that was outdoors and developed a reputation for never having to call for help. If my Datsun Station-wagon broke down, it was right by a mechanic that could fix it. I once was helping set up trails for a horse ride and picked up some "trash" which turned out to be property of the nearby military base, a live hand-grenade! First, I was "lucky" that the grenade didn't go off and returned it to the military, telling them where it was found. A week later, driving judges for the trail ride I was going down a narrow road and a steep hill when a doe and fawn darted in front of the car, rather than hit them I slid off into a stream, ending up axle deep in red mud. My fellow students were overjoyed, my luck had finally run out and I was stuck, this was tow truck time! Suddenly, out of no where, up through the stream came marching squadron where I had returned the grenade. They lifted the car and put me back on track so fast that I was right on schedule! Those guys certainly seemed angelic at the time!

I have run out of gas, had the car restart and go 5 miles to the petrol station, and then the tank requires a half gallon more of gas than should be physically possible! I rode out a Tropical Storm with 45 mph winds in a small 26 ft sailboat and kept from running ashore with a 7 hp engine. Impossible? Not with a Guardian Angel pushing!

And that is really how you know you have a Guardian Angel. You constantly beat the odds and impossible things happen, in spite of your own stupidity. It is the continuous little miracles that really have no other explanation! It is good, angelic people showing up at just the right time. Many would call this God, but what is God if not the supplier of Guardian Angels?
