Do you prefer fast food or home cooking?

As nutritional science has become more and more sophisticated over decades, we have learned more and more about what foods are good and bad for our bodies. There is always controversy (we may stop and wonder if eggs are good or bad for us these days), but it is generally agreed that a diet filled with greasy foods is unhealthy.

Fast food restaurants have begun to acknowledge this reality (and the growing number of people who are making healthier food choices), offering lighter fare, such as salads, but it is still fast food.

Clearly, fast food presents an easy solution for busy modern people, by providing quick and inexpensive food. But unfortunately, we trade away true nourishment in exchange for convenience.

Deep down, most people long for home-cooked meals made from quality ingredients. If the wild popularity of the various celebrity chefs' cable-TV shows is any indication, we are seriously craving true nourishment.

It's safe to say that most households have at least one dusty cookbook laying around. Use it! Find some simple recipes you like. Look for websites and cookbooks specializing in quick, easy recipes.

Busy people can- and do- find time to cook, just as they find time to watch television, surf the internet, and pursue other hobbies. Good, nourishing food is important... and it will give you more energy to handle all your busy-ness.

Here are some time-saving tips for home cooking:

- EASY VEGGIES

Eat your veggies! They're good for you!

It's a great idea to have more veggies in your diet, but fresh vegetables can be time-consuming to prepare. Also, veggies can often begin to go bad before you even have a chance to use them.

For example, I use peppers and onions in many of my favorite recipes, but might not need an entire onion at the moment. Rather than waste the excess, I'll put it in a zip-lock freezer bag and pop it in the freezer. So the next time I need a handful of chopped onions for something, I take what I need, thaw it in the microwave, and I'm ready to cook.

To save even more time, every so often, I'll buy a good quantity of fresh vegetables, chop them up, and store away each kind in its own zip-lock freezer bag. It's a little chore that will be worth your while in the amount of time it will save you later.

When fresh veggies are out of season, buy bagged frozen vegetables from the grocery store. They are super-convenient. Just take what you need, and thaw them in the microwave (boiling takes away the veggies' natural nutrients); use them in your recipes
