economy is going to get back into balance is for interest rates to rise, which will drop the market and increase incentives for saving. Artificially low rates offered by the Federal Reserve Board do not result so much in lower rates to consumers as they do in irresponsible lending practices. All one has to do to see this is look at the interest rates on credit cards, and the proliferation of variable rate loans.

Herbert Hoover once said, "God bless children, for they will inherit the national debt." The national debt today makes the national debt then look like chump change. The depression that began in Hoover's term as President followed economic policies of allowing the markets to correct themselves. The next depression will follow economic policies of manipulating markets beyond belief. There is no easy cure, and the cures offered by Bush and his policy makers are actually worse than the ailments. The policies are magnifying the suffering that will eventually need to be endured by society to get the economy back into balance, moving, and defying gravity rather than having gravity pull what is still working into the growing mass of that which is not working.

At least he admits to not being an economist, but we should all recognize that he, nor any other elected official, holds a magic wand!
