Poetry: Being a mother

by Donna Carroll Batton

Created on: July 20, 2008

What Is A Mother

A Mother is someone who
always is near
To kiss away boo-boos
To wipe away tears

A shelter to run to
protector from harm
A solace of comfort in
times of alarm

She's a storehouse of knowledge
a symbol of wealth
A fortress of strength and
of unfailing health

She is teacher and doctor
and minister too
And a bottomless treasure of
"things we can do"

She's both seamstress and cook
a real jack-0f-all-trades
A valet and chauffeur
the queen of all maids

She's a keeper of justice
a playground trustee
An unbiased judge and
at times, referee

There are many professions
from which to be called
But the one labled "Mother"
sure covers them all!
