I met my husband a bit differently than the traditional, we met online. I had started logging into yahoo to talk to my girlfriend in Australia, it was much cheaper than the phone calls. This name pops into the room and my heart skipped a beat. I didn't know at the time why.
We spent the next two years talking about everything; his nephew, his country, my travels, my son, etc. Then one day he said he wanted to marry me. We had never talked about even having a relationship before. I was thrown and told him it needed more discussion when one day we meet.
I was moving to Australia with my girlfriend when the plans fell through. The government would not let the agricultural school give my son the scholarship they offered him. Duke told me to come to Australia anyways to visit. He was still serious about marrying me; he knew I was the person to spend the rest of his life with.
He greeted me at Sydney Airport with my favourite yellow roses and shaking like a leaf. He was so excited he could barely stand still on the floor. We spent the week touring me around and learning more about each other. It was if we had never been apart, it was a soul connection like two kindred spirits finally finding each other.
At the end of the week we went back to Echo Point that overlooks the Three Sisters in Katoomba. It is a beautiful view that you can see for miles. Duke got to one knee and looked up at me, I began shaking all over.
He says, "The beauty of this view is nothing compared to the beauty of you and your soul. I have waited my whole life to find who God wished me to spend my time with, it is you. I will love you through all the ages, with each one our souls will find each other again. I asked you to come to Australia because I never want to live without you. Marry me and make me the happiest man alive."
I fell to my knees kissing him all over his face and whispering yes over and over as I did. We have been married for almost two years now and our hearts still soar above the clouds each time we are near.
It is not so much the place that makes a perfect setting for a romantic proposal; it is the heart with which the proposal is said. Every day he still tells me how beautiful I am and how much he loves me. Every fantasy of words and touch I have had in my life he has fulfilled. As he leaves for work he whispers in my ear that he is the happiest man for finding me as a wife. I didn't just have a romantic proposal. I have the romantic marriage and life. That's fair dinkum mate.
