A Satire on "The Great Green Utopia" of the Year 2020

The year 2020 ! Wow, what wonderful changes we have made to the world. How lovely it is to live in a vibrant de-carbonized economy. I muse upon the situation whilst lying in bed listening to the radio, tuned to the BBC, which shares broadcasting with Deutsche Welle and associates, ABC and CNN news media - they are such fountains of Green misinformation!

The Great Green Cracker Company...stock surges to 56 Euros today on the bourse... similar move in the Great Green Gas Mask Company. Oh Oh Oh ....... I dream of the days when you didn't have to wear a gas mask outdoors! But we mustn't pollute the atmosphere!

Disaster strikes at sea ... 400 lives lost ..... a windjammer on the great circle North Polar route to Australia has collided with windmills in the North Sea and sank within 5 minutes .. valuable cargo of Green Crackers is lost!....

Oh dear, I do recall the controversial introduction of the Green Cracker to Australia. Now 90% of the present 10 million population live on Green Crackers, with an allowance of 5 crackers per person per day. The Institute of Mystification and Development has shown that people's greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by 50% when they live solely on Green Crackers! And it's so efficient. Helpful warnings are sent to your personal computer saying, for example ..... "You have now reached 90% of your permitted Green House Gas Emissions".... please report to the local Greens Council for revaluation.

A weekly package of 35 crackers is mailed to your street address. This saves you from going to the supermarket thus reducing more CO2 emissions! However, by the year 2020 there are no supermarkets, only one hypermarket per capital city. This is where members of the Central Planning Committee shop for food and naturally they are exempt from such regulations.

Your personal "Permit to Emit Green House Gases" must be renewed every 6 months at the local Greens Council. Life style activities are studied, carbon footprints measured and lower carbon emission activities are enforced. Overseas trips are banned and you will be fined 1000 Euros for minor infringements. The world must be saved from environmental catastrophe!
