Good Careers Have No Clocks!

Its just another job I go to
I've had many in my past
More jobs I can't remember,
Some that did not last.
With some I've had some pleasure
In others I've made mistakes
A career you think...
Choices I've made...
Tick-tock, Tick-tock...Is it 5 O'clock?

Inbetween those jobs I've held,
I've witnessed death, birth and hell.
With wifehood and motherhood thrust upon me
Responsibility abounds, creativity is quelled...
Tick-tock...tick-tock...What time is it?

I run into old friends and new,
They all ask, 'What do you do?'
I shrug and tell them it pays the bills.
But, the career I've privately reserved on a shelf,
I've kept to myself and no one else.
Tick-tock...tick-tock...please...I want it to stop.

Under the cobwebs I've hidden away,
A paintbrush, a canvass, a journal and poems
Get the keys...open the door,
Let me in...I want to explore.
Like the spring buds of my dogwood tree,
I explode in bloom for all to see.
Tick-tock...tick-tock...so much time has been lost.

With ideas, pen, paper or paint,
Finally...a true career...I think.
A writer...an artist...
I must be...I think...
Tick-tock...tick-tock...Toss out the clock!
