Does pornography cause rape? Absolutely not. Rape is a violent act of assault involving forced sexual gratification on the part of the offender. Women are not the only victims, either. It is meant to humiliate and degrade the person as if they were no more than a discarded piece of trash. Many who have been assaulted in such a manner are scarred for life; both physically and mentally. The desire; the urge, to commit such an act is a sickness. Sex or passion has little or nothing to do with rape; it is rather a brutal attack on another human being. There is no discrimination in those who are sought out for such horrible aggression. The injured parties can range from toddlers to the elderly. I am in agreement with many that the death penalty is too lenient for those who molest children. Lock the offender up, and let the other inmates take care of the rest.

Pornography is merely adult entertainment. It has been around for centuries, but in the past forty years or so, the genre has entered the mainstream. It has become a big business that generates billions of dollars annually. The purpose of adult entertainment, whether it be strip clubs, pornographic movies, magazines, or brothels (as found in parts of Nevada in this country), is to fulfill the patron's sexual fantasies. For a few dollars, anyone of legal age can enter a strip club and view unclothed women (or men) for a few hours. For a bit more, they can have a private dance and shall we say, gratify themselves, provided the dancer performs their job competently. Movies and magazines are yet another means for deprived individuals to "release" their natural urges. In brothels, of course, the satisfaction goes a bit further.

There are many different subcategories of pornography available to cater to those with different preferences. Yes, there are even depictions of rape that fall within these choices, but it is essential to realize that this is simply a scripted fantasy created by actors and/or models. Fortunately, most people who partake of this particular type of entertainment possess the intellect and resilience to differentiate between fantasy and reality. For this reason, I believe that if anything; pornography can be used as a means to keep oneself in check. In other words, it can actually prevent thoughts of something as violent and aggressive as rape.

Legitimate adult entertainment; that which does not involve minor children or real scenes of violence of any kind, is here to stay and those who produce it in whatever form are exercising their right of freedom of speech and/or expression. If a person is normal, viewing sexual acts in pornography will no more cause him to commit a rape than a murder movie will cause him to go out and kill someone.
