Reasons to hate the New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are the most successful North American sports franchise, amassing twenty-six world championship titles during their illustrious history. They have won two more world titles than the Montreal Canadians. Their closest competitor in baseball is the Los Angeles Dodgers, a franchise that was once a part of the New York City sporting landscape.

The iconic stature of the Yankees is bolstered by the legions of fans that follow the franchise. But for every Yankee fan, there is a disgruntled soul cursing everything that is even remotely related to "The Bronx Bombers." Very view baseball fans are ambivalent about the Yankees. You either love them or hate them.

Count me in on the side that hates them.

The ESPN Obsession

I wonder if ESPN is just a satellite station for the Yankees. Every night during their Baseball Tonight show, ESPN runs a feature story about the Yankees. How is Joe Girardi adjusting to being a Yankee manager? What did Hank Steinbrenner say today? Is A-Rod dating Madonna? (The last question should give you an idea about the content on ESPN)

The more exposure the Yankees get, the more they are hated by American baseball fans.

Jose Canseco/Roger Clemens

Sterseco and Clemoids are arguably the two poster boys for the steroids era. Add Barry Bonds to the poster and we have a title called "My Three Chemical Romances." The Yankees hired Canseco and Clemens at the peak of their respective "Incredible Hulk" careers. And yet, Yankee management glibly states they had no idea that either one was juiced.

The Yankees were once revered for their American Pie motif, an organization that embraced everything that was good about America. Now, the represent greed and underhanded tactics.

Yankee Fans

California Angle first baseman, Wally Joyner, felt a slight pain in his foot during a game against the Yankees in 1986. When he looked down, he saw a five inch knife blade sticking through the side of his shoe. The knife was thrown by a fan who was sitting in the first row of Yankee Stadium.

Yankee fans have always been regarded as knowledgeable about baseball. But in essence, their true nature is one of being loutish thugs. They fight, curse, and spit on opposing team fans that have the audacity to walk by them wearing a different team's jersey. Contemporary baseball ticket pricing has forced some of the bums to stay home. But even money can't dilute the disgrace that is a Yankee fan.
Alex Rodriquez

Pretty boy A-Rod is officially ensconced within New York City tabloids.
