How old is too old to wear a mini skirt?

by Wendy Brock

Mini skirts are ultra chic and stylish and look great with the ballet style shoes that are currently in style. But is there an age limit to mini skirts? Can a woman be too old to wear a mini skirt?

Age doesn't matter when it comes to style. But there are several factors to consider before stepping out in public while wearing a daring mini skirt: the style of the skirt, the appearance of your legs, weight, shoes, and behavior.

The style of the skirt is very important. There are many different types of mini skirts ranging from youthful and fun to conservative. Any woman over the age of thirty should avoid mini skirts with sequins, appliqued flowers, or embroidered butterflies. These designs are juvenile for a mature woman. Women should keep the pattern simple, since a mini skirt is attention-grabbing on its own. There's no need to overdo the effect.

A denim or khaki skirt paired with a fitted button up blouse looks classy and conservative while at the same time being a bit edgy and stylish. Mature women should keep this in mind while shopping.

Another detail to consider is the appearance of your legs. The main reason to wear a mini skirt is to show off your legs. If your legs are unsightly, don't show them off. If your legs are covered in spider veins, wear hose or don't wear a mini skirt at all. If you have sagging knees, avoid a mini skirt. Most people will notice your flaws before they notice your beauty, so cover up your legs with a nice pair of slacks if you are ashamed of your legs. Don't draw unwanted negative attention to yourself if your legs should be hidden. However, if you have great legs, by all means, show them off and wear a mini skirt.

Another very important issue for mini skirt wearers is weight. At an appropriate weight, a mini skirt looks great. But if you're overweight, mini skirts give the appearance that you're actually larger than you are. Plus, if you have cellulite, it will definitely be seen when you wear a mini skirt.

A full-length mirror and a hand-held mirror are must-haves. Use the hand held mirror to examine your rear view in the full length mirror. Be honest with what you see. If you don't want others to see what you look like in a mini skirt, then don't wear it. And don't fool yourself. If you have an issue with the way you look, someone else will notice it too. And people talk, too. They will go around and tell other people, "Oh my goodness! Did you see what so-and-so was wearing today? Did you see her fat rolls/cellulite/spider veins?" People talk about other people. You don't want to be the "so-and-so" of this conversation.

When wearing a mini skirt, it's important to pair it with the right shoes. In order to look like a classy and mature woman, wear shoes with little or no heels. Ballet flats look great on everyone. A simple solid color is perfect for older women wearing short skirts. Strappy sandals look great too.

How do behavior and a mini skirt go together? When you wear a mini skirt, remember to cross your legs when you sit or someone across from you will see straight up your skirt. Also you'll want to practice stooping down instead of bending from your waist to pick something up. In a mini skirt, you'll probably still show areas you may not intend to show off, but stooping is much nicer looking than bending over. Don't act sleazy, unless that's the attention you want to attract.

With the right combination of age appropriate shoes and blouse, a mini skirt can look great on any woman, no matter what her age. Keep in mind the appearance of your legs, your weight and remember to stay classy. It's not difficult to turn this fashionable item into a fashion flaw. Shop with sense and you'll look great.
