Wood floors, when finished properly, are the easiest of all floor surfaces to keep looking good for years to come.
No matter how well your wood floor is sealed and finished NEVER pour water onto your floor, while a damp mop is ok once in a while even small amounts of water can deteriorate the quality and duribility of your finished floor. So, how do you clean your floor?
Vaccuuming, or dust mopping (dry mopping) is the best route to go. I recommend vaccuuming. This is because vaccuuming is the best way to remove dirt and dust from the floor before it is walked into the grain of the wood. This will also keep that shine to your wood floor.
Also, when using maintenance products READ THE LABEL, I know it may seem simpe to spray and wipe but some products require mixing and some products have warnings for certain finishes on floors.
Here are some other tips on how to keep the duribility and beauty to your finished wood floor:
1. Use mats at all exterior doors of your home this will prevent major tracking of dirt and grit onto your floor.
2. Vaccuum regularly and often and sweep your floors in between vaccuumings.
3. Check with the flooring manufacturers before using a microfiber cloth like swiffer on your floors. These fibers can scratch and splinter some flooring surfaces.
4. Put felt gliders on the bottom of your furniture. This will allow furniture to move easily across floors without scuffing.
