There are five types of space heaters: Wood, Gasoline, Kerosene, Propane, and Electric. While there are many positives for using a space heater, one must never overlook the possible dangers. It is pertinant to understand the product by gathering information upon consideration.
• Always select a space heater with a gaurd around the heating elemant or flame area.
• Purchase a heater that is the correct size for the area. The heating range that the heater produces will be listed on the box. The correct size reduces pollutants in the air.
• Always purchase from a reputable company.
• It is VERY important to follow all enclosed instructions when using a space heater.
• Never sit a space heater down on or by a wet area, on furniture or any area that is not level.
• Children and pets should never be left close to a space heater. Sometimes they may look safe, but it is unreal how many of these warnings have actually occured!
• Never put anything in a space heater other than what it requires.
Educate everyone in the household of the dangers and safety procedures that you want to execute if anything should happen. Practice and understanding is imporatnt. Install at least one fire alarm in your home. It is also a good idea to purchase an alarm for carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless fume that can also be fatal if not detected soon enough.
Space heaters are a convenient source of heat because of the sizes that they come in, pricing, and portability. They are also dangerous if not used properly. So, read the box for the heating range, check for a quality brand, open the box, and read the instructions thoroughly. Oh, keep this guideline in mind, also!
