Job security: Lifetime jobs and employer loyalty are things of the past

Job security: Lifetime jobs and employer loyalty are things of the past... I beg to differ. I have worked with the same company for 12yrs now, and am amazed how well they treat their employees.

Like life itself, there are never any guarentees that you will fall into the perfect job, that you will love going to work everysingle day... You get out, what you put in, I am a firm believer in that.

The company I work for is a fortune 500 comapny, it does very well on the stock exchanges, and is a company that has grown to international status. We as employees are given first chance at all new postings, not just within our location, but other locations as well. We have an amazing medical, dental, and optical plan. RRSPS, as well as a pention match program.

There are many employees in the location where I am that have been with the company for more than 15-20yrs, if that isnt job security, than I dont know what is.

Life if all about finding the right paths that work for you, not only in your career, but in your day to day living.

When looking for a career/job here are a few simple guidlines that may work:

1) Observe the employees that are already working there, generally you will get a sense of what the company is like just by the way the employees interact and carry themselves around the place of employement. ex.. If it seems to be a high speed upbeat group setting, the employees are happy, very interactive, chances are they are loving their jobs, and the company they work for.. On the flip side, if the employees look depressed, unhappy, or the air seems to be tense, that it probably isnt the best place to be. Let's face it, we have all walked into places that reflect both of the above examples, which place would you rather be?

2) Talk to some people that work there, if most of the staff has been there for quite a few years, than you know the company is treating them well, and they like where they are, and there is that job security. If they have only been there for a couple of months, and the average yr of employement is about 6 months to 1yr, and everytime you walk into the place of employment its always new faces or the turnover rate is quite high, than thats probably a good indicator they do not treat their employees with respect.

3) When you go for your interview, it the people interviewing you tell you about the company, and give you a general overview of how it works, and what is expected, and they are professional but aproachable and human, positive and easy going, thats its probably a pretty good place to be... However if when you go in for your interview, and the interviewer is easily distracted, doesnt really care, offers no encouragement about the position, at that point you should know, if they are not happy at their job, you probably wouldn't be either.

Very few people ever find the perfect job with the perfect hours for them, there is always something that upsets them about where they work, its part of human nature, but if you can find a company that makes going to work fun, rewards you with your hard work, and believes in you, than you have definatly found the right place...

I have been at the same place for 12yrs, and everyday when I walk in, its always something new to experience, challenge me to become a better leader, and motivate me to be a better person...

There are companies out there that do honestly care about their employees, its not a dying breed, just look for the above criteria, and you will find they really do exist

Happy Hunting

So I would honestly have to say, this title frustrates me, because there really are companies out there that do invest time and money in their employees, and treat them great, and appreciate them...
