Hosea 4:6 (NIV)
6. My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
"Because you have rejected knowledge,
I also reject you as my priests;
because you have ignored the law of your God,
I also will ignore your children.
If Christians need a reason to stay in the know about current political affairs, the above scripture has to be more than a reason. Above the general fact that all of us are treated the same under the law which is put in to motion by the politicians we vote for, being Christian does not exempt us from being informed about what is going on around us.

I believe beyond the shadow of doubt that Christian should be Politicians, I believe this because Governance is in the bible. Isaiah 9v 6 for to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, [a] Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. This scripture becomes more than just a reason why Christians have to be in the forefront of Politics.
Jesus himself was a leader, he led his followers in a way we all want to lead those who follow us or who are under us. Funny now if one is a Christian they are expected to stay clear of politics, this has been because Politics is viewed as a dirty game. Far from it, politics is the fuel for our cars, the cost of bread, the price of my plane ticket, the taxes I pay, Politics is everything that happens around me & politicians are the directors of it all.
Christians & non Christians, we are charged by the same law, buy the same food, shop for the same clothes & use the same fuel for our cars, why is it not important for Christians to be concerned about all these issues? It has to be a shock & come as a surprise that a Christian would feel so strongly about politics but I am human too. I live in a house, pay my taxes, and fuel my car & buy my food from the same shop as a non Christian so why should I not be as informed as any other person?
In our world today they are many myths that have to go & the biggest one is that if you are a Christian then your place is in a simple job & you agree to everything that comes your way & you cannot voice your concerns. That is the total opposite, Christians have to be at the very front of speaking & knowing about these issues at all times. Paul, in the bible says that we should pray for the Kings that they may rule with wisdom, remember is the men who leads you is trigger happy, you will always be in wars. The opposite is true, if you are lead by a Christian, I believe that the leader will first seek all means for peace & all alternatives before any exchange of guns & war.
They are three things that fight to rule the world, the ballot, the bullet & the bible, which one will win? The more we look at the world, Christians need to get their act together & keep up to date with Political issues, and it is way past time for this to happen. The world is waiting for the sons of peace to take their place in the world & rule with wisdom.
