"I finally found a place where the grass is greener on the other side, now I'm too old to climb the fence." This is on a plaque that hangs on the fence around my patio. It always seems that we're never really happy where we are.
Sometimes I think that we're looking for something to fulfill a need, and we just can't find it. With feelings and emotions, sometimes we don't actually know if we're looking for something materialistic, spiritual, or something to make us feel better about ourselves.
Some people have everything, and they still aren't happy. They have no happiness or peace within. If you can go out and buy everything you want, what would you have to look forward to in the future? Being rich isn't the answer.
People say; If I only had this, or if I only had that? What would you do with it if you had it? It's like a small child after opening presents on Christmas morning. The new wears off within two days and they just want more. They're bored with what they have. You have to wonder where they learned that.
Sure, the grass may look greener, but are you willing to give up everything to find out? Is it worth the gamble to find out that nothing is different? You need to look deep within yourself and find what you're really looking for. If you don't know what to do about something, don't do anything. Give it some time. If you have the time, it may just turn out being worth the wait. If you don't have the time, what does it matter anyway?
Sometimes we just need to take inventory of what we have and be thankful. There are a whole lot of people out there that would give their eyeteeth to have what you throw away. I'm not kidding. Sometimes it's better than what they have, or they don't have it at all.
A house is suppose to be where you live. But love has to be there in order for it to be a home. A place where families live and love together. They share laughter and joy and a warmth that bonds them for all time. You don't need a mansion. I can't imagine living in a place that is so big, that no one ever sees each other except for a meal. The table would be so huge, that you still wouldn't be able to communicate with one another. To me that is not a home. It's more like a big hotel, where everybody comes and goes.
A car is your transportation. You don't need a new one everytime the neighbor gets one. Learn to be who you are. Stop trying to keep up with the Jones's, so to speak. You need to be happy inside. You need to know what you want and then go for it. Don't just assume that things will be different. For all you know, the grass on the other side could already be dead. Live for today. Tomorrow will take care of itself.
There's nothing wrong with wondering what it would be like on the other side, as long as you don't blow what you have now, to prove a point. Things aren't always what they seem. The grass is not always so green. Paul said in the Bible to be content in whatever state you were in.
