Infinity on High is like being on an infinity on high. It starts off on the right foot with "Thriller", the opening narrations done by hip hop artist Jay Z. Then the song flows into a relaxing inspirational tune of, "So long live the car crash hearts. Cry on the couch so all the poets come to life. Fix me in forty-five."
The second song is a spazz. "The Take Over, the Breaks Over" is a mellow yet up to beat song about choosing the better of both evils; definitely a nice addition to the album. "This Ain't A Scene, It's an Arms Race" is clever and wonderful. Bassist of the band and songwriter Mr. Peter Wentz always has at least one song of self confession, and this would be it. It is indeed a good song to listen to when you just need to rock that anger out.
After the previously harsher song, the album tones it down a few notches to a tranquil rocker's lullaby and expression of love. "I'm Like A Lawyer With the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off", or better known as "Me and You" is an optimistic song to listen to when you are falling in love. The fifth song on Infinity on High is just a slight bit more edgy than "Me and You." It is the second self confession song on the album and it is amazing. "Hum Hallelujah" will make you feel like you matter any day.
"Golden", track six, is one of my favorites from this album. It is a slow song that is sung along with a simple piano accompniant. It is a self confession song as well, but if you listen to it just every so often, I guarentee a few tears. The song is so empowering within itself.
The overly popular "Thnks fr th Mmrs" was written in this fashion to resemble a text message. The song is cleary about a one night stand and making decisions based on it. It is a fun tune to dance to alone in your room or at a party. The eighth track on the album is "Don't You Know Who I Think I Am?" Though a catchy title, it is another self confessional; it is a nice song all other matters put aside. The ninth song is a lovely love song written in a strange way, but nonetheless inticing; "The (After)Life of the Party".
"Carpal Tunnel of Love" is another of my favorites of Infinity on High. It is an angry song that contains a few verses of screaming. But nothing gets you pumped for anything like this. The lyrics in the eleventh track, "This is a love song in my own way" best describe "Bang the Doldrums." It is one of my favorites as well.
"Fame is less than Infamy" is somehow a very atheistic but yet a very Christian and faithful song. The song leads you into feeling the hope that good things can and will come. It is most interesting. Song thirteen's lyrics are a bit disappointing. They form a story. Perhaps there is a more in depth meaning behind them, but it must be hard to decipher. The music is catchy though within itself, so I do have to give some credit to, "You're Crashing But Your No Wave".
The album has a decent conclusion, ending with "I've Got All This Ringing in My Ears, And None on my Fingers". It is in fast yet another self confessional song, but when you finish the Infinity on High with listening to this, you just feel on top of the world.
Overall, I think Fall Out Boy did a pretty sweet job on this album. On the otherhand... I would have to favor one of their older pieces, Take This to Your Grave, was by far the best record they released.
