Today no one bit me;
no one pulled my hair.
Today I did not fall asleep;
while I drove my car somewhere.
Today I called my daughter;
and she did pick up the phone.
Today I had a conversation;
with a child of mine who's grown.
Today I saw my son.
I did not yell or scream.
Today we still have differences;
but we shared some cold ice cream.
Today is not my best day;
but it will serve me well.
Today I do not blame myself.
I remember well that hell.
Today I count my blessings.
My gratitude list is long.
Today I change my dressings;
and I sing this humble song.
Today I find the good things;
that my god has given me.
Today I take things that life brings;
through a different lens I see.
Today I'm glad I've not been bit;
by a disease that won't play fair.
Today I've regained sanity
I don't have to pull my hair.

Than this big

How does life exist outside my window?
And how does my breath no longer know
The danger of solitude?
I sit alone in this sometimes
I'm sitting on my porch steps with the urge to cry-
waiting for the phone to ring, ready to die.
The stomach tosses and turns
Where is this place called Dignity
Where is this place called dignity?
There was a time I thought I knew
with certainty,
yet
