Guide to seasonal weather in Cancun, Mexico

If you're reading this then I'm guessing you're going on holiday to Cancun, maybe you're considering it or maybe you're dreaming of what it's like whilst stuck on a holiday in a destination which boasts rain, cold and more rain! (This is the last time you let your partner pick the holiday destination!).

Well, I can tell you, if you were hoping to find Cancun hot and sunny, then you will be pleasantly surprised. The average temperature for january is a warm 23 degrees C (that's 73 degrees F)! With temperatures peaking to a high 28 (82 F) in June, July, August and September, it seems that no matter what time of year you go, you won't need that warm woolly jumper Aunty Rose knitted you for christmas (phew!). Therefore, if you are looking for a place to go to have snowball fights, try somewhere a little further from the equator.

When it comes to rain, Cancun has it's fair share- hey, it stops jealousy. The best time of year to go is in March and April, when it receives the least rain, compared to June, September and October when it receives the most. However, if you buy a really nice big sombrero, then it will keep the rain out of your eyes, and more importantly out of your hair. What a relief.

So, you're now at the point when you're thinking, "Ok, I know when it rains, I know when it's hot, but all I want to do is sunbathe! When do I do.". Have no fear, for I can answer that as well. The white, sandy beaches in Cancun are a huge magnet for all those seeking sun sea and sand (well duh!). The best time to go is June- August. At this time, you can fully enjoy the highest temperatures that the city has to offer.

If you can't sit still long enough to sunbathe and sightseeing is more your cup of tea, then don't panic, Cancun has loads to offer. About a 45 minute drive from Cancun, in Playa del Carmen, lies the park known as: Xcaret. Yes, it is as exciting as it sounds. Xcaret is a huge eco theme park. With an underground river, swimming with dolphins, a mayan village, an aquarium and much more, Xcaret is a park which is sure to give you many great days out. Perfect for adults and children alike, it is well worth a visit. It also provides something to do on the days when the weather isn't so great, as well as the days when it is. Another place to go is Garrafon Natural Reef Park, on Isla Mujeres. The island is only a 25 minute cruise away from Cancun and boasts a range of activities from cayaking and snorkelling, to a sculpture garden and zip wire, plus much more. It has the second largest coral barrier in the world. The island, with its panoramic tower, offers tourists a lot to do when the weather is hot and sunny. If you are going to Cancun, it is well worth a visit.

So there we have it, a city with fantastic weather and great places to go. Why are you still here? You should be off booking your flights now!
