Home remedies for laryngitis

Laryngitis can be very uncomfortable and a big hassle for you especially if you work in a job field that requires you to speak with the public in a daily bases. The medical term for the swelling and inflammation of the larynx is laryngitis. The larynx is also known as the voice box.

There are actually few cases of laryngitis that require medical attention but if you have laryngitis you should visit a doctor. Most cases of laryngitis are brought on by using your voice to much but in some cases it is also caused by a common virus.

If you are affected by laryngitis that lasts for a prolonged period you should defiantly visit a doctor to make sure that you don't have a more serious problem like a tumor which in some cases could be cancerous especially if you are a smoker.

The most common symptoms of laryngitis are cough, congestion, fever, a tickly feeling in the throat, hoarseness, the urge to constantly clear your throat and even a sore throat. If you have a history of breathing problems or throat problems, coughing up blood, unable to take liquids, high fever, coughing up green or yellow phlegm or your symptoms last longer than 2 or 3 weeks you should visit a doctor for medical attention.

To help prevent laryngitis you should make sure your children have their Haemophilus influenza vaccine. It is impossible to completely eliminate the risk altogether but it will help to wash your hands often especially before touching your face and also try not to overuse your voice. The following information is on how to mix and use essential oils to treat laryngitis.

Laryngitis Remedy #1

Step 1

Ingredients:

2 drops Chamomile Oil
3 drops Lavender Oil
1 drop Thyme Oil
1 bowl of Hot Water

Mix these essential oils together and add to the bowl of hot water then use a towel to cover your head and bowl as you hold your head over the bowl to inhale the steam. Use the towel to keep the steam in but be sure to come up for air every couple of minutes. Do this for about 10 15 minutes.

Step 2

Ingredients:

5 drops Chamomile Oil
2 drops Lemon Oil
1 drop Thyme Oil
1 tsp. Vegetable Oil

Mix these oils together well and massage into the neck area and behind the ears.

Step 3

Ingredients:

2 tsp. Honey
1 drop Lavender Oil
2 drops Lemon Oil
1 glass of Warm Water

Mix these ingredients together well and sip slowly.

Laryngitis Remedy #2

Step 1

Ingredients:

2 drops Chamomile Oil
2 drops Geranium Oil
2 drops Sage Oil
1 bowl of Hot Water
