Another major chemical, not found in nail polish, but in some acrylic nails used in salons is methacrylate (MMA). According to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, this compound has caused allergic reactions so severe that the entire nail was lost due to use. This chemical has been banned in many states because of the results.
Always check your nail polishes, whether you're pregnant or not to see if they include any of these ingredients. Here is a list of the companies and brands that manufacture nail polish free from these chemicals and are safe to use:
Adoree, Avon, Butter London, Color Club, Dashing Diva, Essie, Estee Lauder, Honeybee Gardens, Lipmann Collection, NailTini, NAPS, Nocti, Nubar, NYC, OPI, Rescue Beauty Lounge, Revlon, Sally Hansen, Sinful, Sparitual, Vinyl Deborah Lippman, Wet n Wild, and Zoya.
The next time you manicure your nails, take care to use nail polish, removers, and products that are chemical free. Beautiful nails are a great way to show off your hands, but it's not worth the side effects to be careless. When so many nail polish brands have removed these chemicals, there is no need to continue to purchase polishes that have not followed suit. Check your old bottles and discard the ones that may be questionable. Always remember that your health is more important than vanity.
