Worship for God as a choice against worship of the Bible

by Gerry Legister

Created on: July 17, 2008

The early Christians would gather in believer's homes for prayer and worship, it would be a place where wisdom and knowledge was imparted for those in search of spiritual truth with honest heart, and if it were possible, certain individuals would be reading from the scroll of Isaiah, but by enlarge, the apostles did not go around with new translations of the bibles that we now have at our disposal, this pattern of worship seemed to have been the normal procedure of the early church.

Worship God is a personal choice, with reference from the bible, however, God does not suggest that we worship the bible, but the word that became flesh and lives among us, should be the focus of our interest, that word is Jesus, who as we worship God becomes the central theme of the bible, the word brings us to a deeper understanding of God, and we use its inspired contents as helps and government.

There is much confusion in the religious world today concerning how we auth to worship God.With over 500 different religious denominations, error and confusion are inevitable, God is supreme, and there is none other to whom we should pay homage, as we pray for ourselves and others, our prayers form a greater dimension, and takes on some characters like those that are found in the bible, prayer also form a wonderful part of our worship, along with taking part in communion and listening to the message been preached, prayer create a communication link between ourselves and God.

What does it mean to worship God? It means to engage our heart in the word because, God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."John 4:24. A large chunk of the scriptures makes this point abundantly clear.

What does it mean to worship the bible, this would clearly be an error of some enormous proportion, the bible speaks about God, it is not a god to be worship. The great command says, thou shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3 Pop stars, footballers, sport personalities, Hollywood stars, none of them are gods to be worship, and neither is the bible, its only a book of instructions to guide us to a safer harbour.

Samaritans believed they should worship God on Mt.Gerazim, While the Jews anticipated a much lofty heights, they understood from history that Jerusalem should be the place.

Jesus said the time was coming when mankind would embrace a different kind of worship, and it would truly be heart felt, unconditionally, without falling back into the traditions of history,
