What is the difference between the dealer on the street corner selling prescription drugs, and an internet pharmacy? In my opinion not much, if a person on a street corner were selling drugs, prescription drugs, to persons who had not seen a doctor to get a valid prescription, they would be arrested for illegally selling drugs. Why should internet pharmacies be any different?
There are definite dangerous aspects in mixing drugs that may not be compatible that it is not only a disgrace but it is highly unethical. As a person that takes many drugs for several conditions, all prescribed by a doctor, and over seen by a licensed pharmacist. The reason for this is that many of the drugs I have to take can be very dangerous if mixed with many over the counter medicines. For instance, because of one drug I take I can't use any over the counter medicine that has decongestants in them. It can cause a deadly drug interaction.
Because I use only one pharmacy I am able to talk with my pharmacist regarding the use of any over the counter drugs for potential fatal interactions. Who are you going to consult online? If they are irresponsible enough to give you drugs, many of which can be dangerous if mixed with other medicines, without a prescription from a doctor, do you really think they will take the time to tell you which over the counter drugs may be dangerous with that particular medicine they are mailing you?
In my opinion, for what it is worth, they are no better than the guy on the corner. Also how diligent in making sure that the person buying the drugs, without prescriptions, are of legal age? They are simply using a loophole that needs to be closed to sell drugs. They have no concern for the so called patient, the way I see it they are in it for the money.
The same laws that deal with the street corner dealer should apply to these online drug dealers. Yes I call them drug dealers, because that is what they are. If you can order powerful drugs like oxy-cotton, or xanax, without a legal prescription are they not dealing in the illegal sale of drugs?
Many of these so-called pharmacies are out of the country. Do we really know that the drugs they are selling to, meet the FDA standards for safety as required in the USA? There are a lot of issues that should be of concern to all citizens. It is easy for your children to get online and use possibly your credit card, or a money order, to purchase these potentially dangerous drugs. We have a hard enough time dealing with the street corner dealers in this country to have the internet contributing to the accessibility of these drugs to our young people.
I'm not saying that only young people buy drugs over the internet. I am sure that there are some people that for whatever reason their doctor may have cut them off because they have been abusing these drugs. Here it is, another way for the addict to get the drugs with so much ease that it going to be, if it already isn't, a major problem for the DEA to deal with.
We have laws in this country to protect our citizens and this is another way for the unscrupulous predators to circumvent the law. With the way money can be electronically transferred these days it has to be a problem for the law enforcement agencies to track the money. The internet is a great tool and has many advantages for society as a whole for us to allow this type of criminal element to do illegal business such as selling drugs in such a manner.
