Fischer Amber Ale, is it good ale or is it bad beer? Any connoisseur of ales or dark beers will be asking that question when they bring the brown bottle to their lips and taste of the ale in the bottle. Delivering a punch from the start is a liquid that pours golden brown in the glass and gives a nice frothy head to those of us who love such things. The stoutness of ales is not missed in this almond and hops flavored drink as it assaults the taste buds from the beginning to the end. For those who love to take the drink apart as they are imbibing, this will be a pleasant task as it boasts flavors that range from hops to nuts to almost a sour after bite, but don't get me wrong, it is pleasant for those who love stronger drinking ale. Not quite as bold as a Guinness but also not quite as light as a pilsner, this is definitely a good start to a night of enjoyment. This ale is sort of a middle of the road experience that allows, dare I say it, the best of both worlds. It is not as heavy as the stout's but not as light as the Pilsner lines, so an enjoyable mid ground has been achieved by the brewmasters.
Brewed in France, yes I said France, around a small city named Strasbourg; the ale boasts some very deep background as it has been around since 1821. Well, the brewery has at least, and what a pedigree it has. The family that owns Fischer Brewery has been in the wine and beer business since the 1600's and this ale shows the history of their efforts. While in an area known for its wines, the company attracted attention from the very popular worldwide distributor and brewer Heineken. The two created a team that allows Fischer to reach into the far corners of the world and allow us to taste the fine ales and wines that this company produces.
While not fully an appealing taste for most, the ale is liked enough amongst those who enjoy a bolder taste and the frothy head of a thick stout, without being a stout. All in all it is a very good experience for a beer drinker and I would highly recommend using this beer with your bolder meals. It has been suggested that a good beef meal, or maybe a bolder tasting meal, and Fischer Amber would be a great combination, but I would think that sitting by the fire and eating hunks of day old bread, homemade loaves of course, while drinking this ale would be the best way to end the day I could imagine. But hey, don't take my word for it, go out and buy yourself one, open that lid, smell the aroma, and sit back and enjoy good clean ale with a punch.
