How safe are webcam sites?

Have you noticed just how many webcam sites are springing up throughout the net? whereas many require some sort of payment before entry or evidence of age there seems to be a trend for this regulation to be relaxed. jmeeting.com is a perfect case in point. Registration takes less than 30 seconds, doesn't require any credit card, just an admission by checking a box of being over 18 even your name is not checked. Following this process you have access to literally hundreds of un regulated live webcams from around the world 24 hours a day, these cams are grouped Male, Female, Couple & Other by simply clicking on a user id you have live access to whatever that user is doing and for a further click or to they and indeed everyone else can have access to you!.

Jmeeting breaks down its user area into rooms many of which are themed, you enter these rooms by a click and join your roommates who can number one or two upwards to one or two hundred depending on the theme, these room have people on cam and people just watching and speaking. Regulation on content is nil, all users have the facility to filter out adult content but if you are in a group sex themed room is is unlikely that you will be offended by nudity!.

All people entering the site can broadcast themselves and view up to three cams at any one time at no cost for a nominal subscription unlimited amounts of cams may be viewed.

I feel at this point that I must point out where I stand on this issue, I have no problems at all with grown up people doing grown up things on or off cam, in their own homes, on the internet or wherever what I am calling for is for sites like this to be better and more responsible in their regulation nothing more, I have no interest in their being banned or removed etc.

Just a brief word about the contributors to this site, whatever stereotype that you have already applied from what you have read here is probably wrong, yes there will be an amount of seedy or perverted viewers, indeed there is a majority of male over female cams (around 4 to 1), but the site does give singles and couples (and more) the opportunity to expand their relationship experiences in a safe environment for them, remember that sex means different things to different people and if this site is an aid to helping relationships develop then that must be fine, but with such lax controls on entry it is inevitable that the sites content will fall upon the wrong eyes.

Jmeeting like many on line communities seems well enough run, the site is basic and the links do not always work, outside of a limited discussion forum there is not much oppertunity to interact other than by cam, advertising is unobtrusive.

Jmeeting is not the only site of this type running at present but I cannot believe many others are as easy to view.
