Be Careful What You Pray For
(You might just get it)
So often I would get a pounder just when it came time to eat. I suffer from severe headaches that can attack me 5 to 6 times a day and for months on end. I have lived with them forever it seems. I do get a break from time to time though and once I went a whole year without having them. That was a blessing. Anyway...
I had just finished preparing dinner for my better half and myself and placed the dinner plates on the table. Juicy lean garlic cheese burgers were now taunting us to devour them. We both sat down with anticipation. Well my gal was excited anyway but for me my head was just throbbing. I thought how could anyone enjoy eating at a time like this?
We began to say grace and to give thanks for always supplying. He always has. With my head hung in my lap and with such an exhausted, exasperated and painful whine I mumbled "...and Lord, can you please just for once ease up on this headache so I can at least enjoy my cheeseburger?" I grumbled out an Amen and started for my burger. My heart just wasn't quite into it as you can imagine if you suffer from any kind of headaches at all.
Suddenly I realized that in minutes my headache was gone. Believe it. I thought my goodness Lord; thank you so much for relieving me of this agony. You are the man. He was listening, as always. Now my cheese burger tasted a lot better.
When we both finished eating I sat back, relaxed and gazed out the window. I let out a long sigh of contentment. The leaves were gently being nudged by the breeze and in the calm of my peaceful little world suddenly everything came crashing down. My headache came back. With a furry! Relentless and without pity. Bang, bang, bang. I looked up and said "Lord, why?" I shook my head at Him in disappointment as I grumbled on and right at that moment I had the epiphany of what a fool I had been. I doubted Him. I grumbled at Him. I should have trusted in Him and now I show disappointment in Him. After all, I did only ask that he rid me of my headache so I could enjoy my cheeseburger. I asked Him in a way that displayed a lack of faith and total disrespect. I guess I didn't really believe He was going to take my headache away.
Instead I should have given thanks for all that He does and really asked from my heart. I should have said, "Lord, I need your greatness and your glory, your power and your compassion to rid me of this relentless headache. In the name of Jesus please help me. I am your child in pain."
"Hmmmm...Well Lord, This prayer is to You
Prayer
Dear Lord I give You thanks for all that you do.
I am blessed and so cared for; I believe only in You.
Lord I trust in the path that you have laid out for my journey.
And I will follow without doubt and have no cause to worry,
Lord I thank You for Your Angels that You always send in times of need.
You are my light, my comfort, my strength. You are the way.
I just wanted to Thank you for this beautiful day.
Amen
Always trust in the Lord and always give thanks to Him. Respect Him and always be careful what you pray for; you might just get it.
