Possible reasons for leaving a current job

People leave jobs all the time in today's society. Gone are the days when people got a job and stayed with the same company for 30-40 years. Companies change too fast, and people do not have the same amount of loyalty as they did in past generations. Some studies suggest that the current generation that is entering the workforce will have 10-15 jobs in their career. People leave jobs for a variety of reasons, and an individual may leave various jobs for different reasons in their careers. Here are a few of the most common reasons that people leave their job and head for "greener pastures".

I got a better offer

Some people leave their job because they get another vocational opportunity that is a better situation. A better situation can mean more money, more responsibility, better conditions, expanded benefits, or a friendlier commute. More often than not, people do not feel as much of a sense of loyalty to their current company, which means that they will take advantage of a better situation. Because of the convenience of the Internet, many people who are in poor working situations will spend some of their time during the day looking for new jobs.

I'm sick and tired of working with you

Many people have suggested that people do not leave organizations. Instead, "people leave people." Ultimately, it usually isn't the job itself that is difficult. The workplace is a challenge because other people can be and are difficult to deal with. This can include supervisors, coworkers and subordinates. Difficult people can make a job intolerable because one has to deal with them on a daily basis. Sometimes relationships can be resolved, but if the situation is bad enough, people may leave the organization.

It is just time to move on

Sometimes people leave jobs because something significant in their life changes. This might include moving to another city, getting married, having a child, or retiring. Sometimes people just have a sense that it is "time" to move on. People do like to keep jobs if they can, but oftentimes life situations take priority and people feel compelled to leave their current job.

Take your pick...

Overall, people leave jobs for a variety of reasons. Some are vocationally-related, some are career-related and others are personal. Regardless of the reason, employees are not going to stick around in a bad situation. They will, and do, move on. And they often will not feel bad about leaving their company behind.
