textured printing paper. You might also want to look at some of the more unique "gadgets" out there, such as the gorillapod or the new lensbabies. The gorillapod is used in place of a traditional tripod. It's flexible legs can be bent to hold the camera to the limb of a tree or the mailbox post or any number of other interesting places. Lensbabies are a set of flexible lens that allow the photographer to bring a part of their shot into sharp focus. This "sweet spot" is surrounded by a gradually increasing blur to the edge of the frame. The focused area can be moved within the frame by bending the lens.

The those still learning, or wanting to explore new directions for their work, a class at either one of the local camera stores or at a community school or college may be the perfect gift. No time? Maybe some books on photography or a magazine subscription would be better. Browsing the aisles at your local bookstore will show you dozens of choices.

Folding light reflectors will be appreciated by just about any photographer, but especially those who do portrait work outside or want to take pictures of flowers. For indoor portraits, backdrops are a must. You can get muslin backdrops or even paper roll backdrops for the budding portrait photographer and you will be remembered every time there is a "shoot". A variety of lens is always fun - soft focus, telephoto, wide angle, close-up. Find out which ones are missing from your photographers bag and you may introduce a totally new angle to their work. If they are working with kids, consider a collection of Pez dispensers. By filing the feet down just a little bit, the Pez dispensers can be slipped into the hot shoe of most SLR cameras and will immediately draw the children's eyes toward to photographer.

If you're on an extremely limited budget, plan to take your photographer on a day trip to a nearby location. Make all of the arrangements - pick the place, provide lunch, make sure to have a cooler or thermos with drinks, etc. Pick somewhere with spectacular scenery, lots of people, or interesting architecture. The location depends on the interests of the photographer. Plan a picnic or quick meal and be the go-ffer for the day. Carry extra equipment, go back to the car for film, lens, etc. or just carry the camera bag. This day is to let your special photographer know that you value and support their work.

There you go - a variety of ideas that fit every budget. Of course, if you'd rather go with the tried and true; you can always stick with film (or memory card, if digital is the preferred type of camera), a regular tripod, batteries or a certificate to a local camera store. These are always appreciated, though they may not bring the same smile of glee to the face of your photographer as the more unique gifts available.
