Can one find love on the web?
Online dating has in recent years, become very popular for many reasons. When one is younger, meeting and being attracted to the opposite sex is just natural; it just happens. You meet in school, at boys and girl clubs, at vacation camps. A boy sees girl next door, falls in love; a girl sees boy across the street, goes after him; it just seems to happen anywhere. For older folk, except for celebrities maybe, it just doesn't seem to happen. As one gets older and becomes divorced, widowed or remains single, these meetings become increasingly difficult. How do we find that person who is just right?
We get set in our own patterns of life for one thing. Widows and widowers wallow in grief over their lost significant other; many believing that it's impossible to ever find someone to fill that loved one's shoes. Divorcees become bitter, or are so tied up in legal issues, that they are terrified to risk relationships. Some people hate meeting in bars, some stop meeting in bars, and a common meeting place.
The Internet has become a major resource for millions all over the world to find relationships, in some countries more than others. In Latin American countries for example, where the computer is not a priority, there is still the natural way of outdoor social intermingling, which makes it a bit easier for dating.
In the more developed countries however, where the pace of living seems to be obliterating good, healthy social relations, some people turn to the Internet. Many internet sites flout pictures of couples and their success stories. One wonders, are these stories true, or are these people paid in order to promote the site?
In fact, there seems to be all the loonies waiting out there, having fun online. One guy actually told me that he was just a "horny old man looking for fun online." Another said he was looking for someone to go to a nudist camp with him. There are many who start a correspondence, expressing interest, and as soon as you reply, their emails stop. There are all sorts out there, but there are also genuinely good people looking to meet a good companion for a real relationship.
There are people who go on and off internet dating, when all fails otherwise, in the hope to one day find someone; and sometimes they really do. At least, there is the possibility of having some dates, and you are the one to sense and decide when you feel that here is a person you can go out on a date with. You are also the one to sense when you think the time is right. It all depends on what you want, and what you are searching for. For those just wanting fun, it might be quite easy. For others who want a quality relationship, it is difficult; but you never know; one day you just might get lucky and have a success story to tell.
