Recipes: Banana split brownie pizza

If you like brownies and banana splits then you will love Banana Brownie Splitza. It is a decedent dessert that will be a favorite for any special occasion. I make mine with a homemade brownie base, but a boxed mix can be substituted (just follow the mixing directions on the box).

Banana Brownie Splitza

Brownie base:

Ingredients:

3 squares melted chocolate
1/2 cup melted butter

1 2/3 cups confectionary sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour

Directions:

1. Preheat over to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Grease and flour the bottom of a 15 inch pizza pan.
3. Melt chocolate squares and butter.
4. Add sugar and salt to the chocolate mixture.
5. Beat in eggs and add flour.
6. Spread the batter evenly in the pan.
7. Bake for 20 minutes.
8. Cool.

Sauce and toppings:

Sauce ingredients:

1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 tablespoon dark corn syrup
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

Toppings:

5 bananas cut in half lengthwise and sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent browning
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1 cup strawberry jam
1 cup pineapple preserves (can use crushed pineapple if you cannot find the preserves)
1 cup chopped pecans
Whipped cream
Maraschino cherries

Directions:

1. Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, corn syrup, and evaporated milk in a medium saucepan.
2. Bring to a boil over medium heat while stirring constantly.
3. Boil for three minutes.
4. Add butter and vanilla.
5. Cool slightly.
6. Pour over brownie and spread to 1/2 inch of the edge of the brownie.
7. Cool.
8. Arrange the bananas over the sauce like the spokes in a wagon wheel working from the edge to the center.
9. Place a scoop of ice cream between each spoke.
10. Heat the strawberry jam and the pineapple preserves separately.
11. Top ice cream with jam and preserves.
12. Sprinkle with chopped pecans.
13. Top with whipped cream and a cherry.
14. Cut into 10 wedges and serve.

Banana Brownie Splitza is a great dessert to have at family gatherings. One thing I do when I do not know whether or not everyone will like the same toppings is to make it without putting any toppings on after adding the ice cream. This way it turns into a make-your-own sundae type of dessert with everyone getting exactly what they want. It also makes it fun for the kids. Just have whatever toppings you want, or have been requested of you, in small dishes surrounding the dessert and everyone can help them selves.

Enjoy!
