Getting a second date is easy that's if you do all the little things right during the first date. The secrets to getting a second date are:

1. Time consciousness: if your date is picking you up, make sure s/he finds you ready. There's nothing more nerve wrecking then having to wait thirty minutes at your dates' living room, while encountering curious looks from other occupants of the home. By failing to prepare on time, the message you send out is that you had other more important things to do and the date didn't feature high on your list of priorities.

If you and your date decide to meet at the chosen venue, keeping time is paramount. Five minutes late is fashionable; but 30 minutes (without calling to explain) becomes arrogance. Plus, there is nothing a man hates as the ego-sapping sympathetic looks of people who think he's getting stood up.

2. Mind you image: Sprite once ran an advertisement, "Image is Nothing" Well, they lied. Today's world is all about image. Dress well and observe the basic rules of hygiene (like clean fingernails and brushed teeth.) If you must wear some cologne, be sure not to splash the whole bottle on you. You never know the other party may be allergic to scents, resulting in a quite uncomfortable date for him/her.

3. Give your date sole attention: nothing ruins the chances of a second date as badly as a date who's constantly speaking to friends on the phone or worst still, going over to the next table to say "hello" to buddies.

4. Mind your manners: don't shout at the top of your voice to a waiter who brought you food that wasn't up to your standards. Play it cool and handle the matter calmly. No one wants to be with a drama queen (or is it crazy person?)

5. Listen: who wants to be around a chatter-box? You know that person who never seems to run out of words! To get a second date, be sure you listen to what the other party has to say. They will be encouraged by the fact that you are interested in what they have to say, boosting your chances of a second date.

6. Don't try too hard to impress: it's quite easy for someone to discover what's real and what's fake. You don't want to be trying too hard to impress your date. Just be yourself, because at the end of the day, one way or another, the true you will come to the fore.

7. Please, no crazy talk: don't go telling your date just how wonderful your ex was, and how sad you are they left you. Don't proclaim your prowess in bed or such like stuff!

8. Call to affirm just how wonderful a time you had. This will make your date feel appreciated and at the same time satisfied that s/he made your day enjoyable.
